§ 2-53. Members not to be interested in county contracts.

  • The commission is hereby prohibited from entering into a contract for the purchase of goods, property or service with any member of the commission, his employer, partner, principal, agent, servant or employee, nor shall the commission enter into any contract in which any member of the commission is financially interested, directly or indirectly. Neither shall the chairman or any member of the commission, his partner, employer, principal, agent, servant or employee enter into a contract with the county or sell to the county any goods, property or service; provided, however, this section shall not apply to goods or services purchased from any public utility which is regulated by the Georgia Public Service Commission.

    Any contract made in violation of the provisions of this section shall be void and any person knowingly offending this section shall be removed from office upon proper proceeding instituted by any taxpayer in said county in accordance with the provisions of section 23-1714 [now repealed] of the Code of Georgia of 1933.
